A New Six-Foor Timber Fence

We recently completed the installation of a new six-foot timber fence for a client in the Scottish Borders. The project combined a long continuous run of fencing with an integrated gate fitted with a Latimer-style latch, delivering a neat, secure boundary that complements the property and withstands local weather conditions.

Scope and objectives

  • Provide a robust, private 6 ft fence along the specified boundary to improve security, privacy and appearance.

  • Install a matching access gate with a reliable latch mechanism.

  • Ensure the installation suited the sloping terrain and ground conditions typical of the Borders, with long-term durability and low maintenance in mind.

Materials and specification

  • Timber: pressure-treated softwood posts, rails and tanalised boards, selected for durability against moisture and decay common in the Scottish Borders climate.

  • Posts: (4x4in) treated posts set at regular intervals to support the long run and the gate section were concreted in place.
